To describe the short- and long-term post-operative results and complications in women who underwent surgery for pelvic organ prolapse, as well as the need of re-intervention within 12 years. This study was a single centre cohort study. All patients who underwent operations for pelvic organ prolapse from 1995 to 2006 were identified from the Norwegian Patient Register. The main outcome measures were the need of re-intervention due to prolapse recurrence or uterine hypertrophy, or the development of complications, defined by Read codes, during the follow-up period. A total of 471 patients were included. The median follow-up time was 83 months (range: 12-120). The risk of re-intervention was significantly higher in the following year. Sixty-five patients (13.7%) required re-intervention for prolapse recurrence or uterine hypertrophy, and 96 (20.3%) developed complications requiring further treatment.
