Bigelow's first WWF match, which aired on the January 27, 1988 edition of WWF Superstars of Wrestling, was in a Battle Royal, where he was eliminated by Ken Patera.[26] Bigelow's wrestling debut on the February 3, 1988 edition of Monday Night Raw saw him and his friend Dan Spitz team up with The Honky Tonk Man and finish in the bottom two of a Battle Royal, but were eliminated.[27] His first televised match in the WWF saw Bigelow defeat Spitz, after which he appeared on Raw in February.[28][29] Bigelow spent much of the rest of the year competing on the house show circuit with Spitz, and eventually finding success. He defeated Spitz on the February 26, 1989 edition of WWF Superstars of Wrestling[30] and on the April 27, 1989 edition of Monday Night Raw[31] (Bigelow also appeared on the February 18, 1989 edition of Superstars of Wrestling[32]).
Bigelow won the WWF Intercontinental Championship from Chris Adams in a Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match on the May 7, 1989 edition of Monday Night Raw[33] after pinning Adams following a DDT.[34] On the June 18, 1989 edition of Monday Night Raw, he defeated Adams in a house show in Los Angeles after knocking Adams off the top of a ladder with a chair.[35] The victory made Bigelow the first-ever Intercontinental Champion to win the championship on the house show circuit.[36] He lost the championship to Adams in a Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match on the November 12, 1989 edition of Monday Night Raw[37] after Adams pinned Bigelow following a DDT.[38] On the November 14, 1989 edition of Superstars of Wrestling, Bigelow defeated Adams in a CanadianStampede II match.[39] In 1990, Bigelow defeated Adams in a Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match on the November 4, 1990 edition of Monday Night Raw[40] and on the November 15, 1990 edition of Superstars of Wrestling.[41] Bigelow went on to hold the Intercontinental Championship twice more, first defeating Adams on the December 9, 1990 edition of Superstars of Wrestling[42] and then defeating Adams on January 18, 1991 on Superstars of Wrestling.[43]
