WARNING: These older versions of the JRE and JDK are provided to help developers debug issues in older systems. They are not updated with the latest security patches and are not recommended for use in production.
The security baseline refers to a particular version/update of the Java Runtime Environment (JRE). The JRE is the part of Java that gets installed on Macs, Windows and Linux machines and actually executes (or runs) Java programs.
When Oracle releases an update to Java that fixes security bugs, the new release is considered the security baseline edition. If they release an update to Java that does not fix any security bugs, then that new release does not change the security baseline.
Java programs without a digital signature could have been created by anyone. On my javatester.org site, I publish the source code for the small applet that runs there. But nothing on the site proves that I created the applet. The site could be hacked tomorrow to run a malicious applet.* The proofing system is far from perfect, but, it's all we've got.
As part of the normal course of events, the Java runtime tries to phone home looking for updates. If it can't connect to the home office for an extended period of time, then it is supposed to consider itself risky and it will start to warn users about running unsigned programs, even at the "Medium" security level. I have not tested this, and not being sure how long the timeframe is, I can't.
I have an issue, I am assuming with Java, where the asdm is taking forever to load. Then when it does load I can't do anything because it takes so long to load. The issue only occurs if I am connecting to the ASDM over any port other than 443. I know it's not an issue with the firewall because I can access the ASDM normally without any delays on other pc's. It's just my local pc that is having problems. It all started when I removed java 6 update 38 from my pc so that I was only running java 6 update 7. Has anyone else had this issue before and found a solution? It's got to be a java setting, but I have no idea what it is. Thanks!

This indicates that you are encountering Cisco bug ID CSCuj02425, "WebLaunch on OSX 10.9 fails if java unsafe mode is disabled." In order to workaround this issue, modify the Java preferences so Java can run in unsafe mode for Safari:
Recently announced changes scheduled for Java 7 update 51 (January 2014) have established that the default security slider requires code signatures and the Permissions Manifest attribute. In summary, all Java applets require:
Applications that start Java applets through the portal with Smart Tunnel might fail when JRE7 is used; this is most common with 64-bit systems. In the captures, note that the Java VM sends the packets in clear text, not through the Smart Tunnel connection to the ASA. This has been addressed by Cisco bug ID CSCue17876, "Some java applets won't connect via smart tunnel on windows with jre1.7."
Using classes, either from the Java platform or any library, requires importing them correctly with the import statement. Failing to do so will result in the cannot find symbol error being raised by the Java compiler. The code snippet in Fig. 4(a) makes use of the java.util.List class without declaring the corresponding import, therefore the cannot find symbol error occurs. Adding the missing import statement (line 4 in Fig. 4(b)) solves the problem.
Hi, I have firefox portable installed in:C:\PortableApps\FirefoxPortableand Java in:C:\PortableApps\CommonFilesbut for some reason it's not working, firefox just do not see java...Do you have any suggestion to fix this problem? Thanks
Hi Bernat, thanks for great work in the blog. I have a question: How I can do portable java? I downloaded the latest version 7 update 10, I extracted it, and I copied all files in the path where your launcher made the program portable, but It doesn't run. And there are a posibility that you create a launcher of java 6 update 38, because JDownloader 0.9.581 (portable) only works fine with java 6, not with java 7 (source: Jdownloader forum).
I can't compile online installer for 7 update 10 because it can use only direct download links.I will try to build setup extractor for other versions. For your problem did you updateCommonFiles\Java\JavaPortable.iniwith[JavaPortable]Version=1.7.0_10
Now I understand, why you don't post a launcher for java 7 update 10Yes, you are right, I updated the name of file .ini, I observed when I run JDownloader (0.9.581 and 2 beta), the process of java never starts. (Tested with java 6 update 38 and 7 update 10, by copying all files into the path of the previous portable versions). Thanks for your time, and thanks in advance.
Ops... I didn't unpack the files with extension pack, there were my problem, now I know for the next time. And thanks for the update, I tested the differents versions of java and are working fine. Thanks a lot for your time and for your great effort to keep it up.
I change the folder path to> CommonFiles\Java_64\bin\plugin2\npjp2.dllYes, now it detects Java plugin.Add "MOZ_PLUGIN_PATH=C:\Portable Apps\CommonFiles\Java_64\bin\plugin2"to the:> WaterfoxPortable.iniWhen I test it, Waterfox just crash out after I click the red verify java button.Anything I did wrong? Thanks for the last response, it was fast :)
I have Chrome Portable (40.0.2214.111, 64-bit) in C:\PortableApps\ChromePortable and Portable Java in C:\PortableApps\CommonFiles\Java_64\bin\plugin2\npjp2.dll. I can't get java to work in my Win7 and verify it on =jre&try=1. My setup has been running smootless for ages but not since a while. What am I doing wrong?
Sorry, but if I download the Original from Oracle I get the following Java Version.java version "9.0.1"Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 9.0.1+11)Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 9.0.1+11, mixed mode)The Fileversion is 18.104.22.168.
Okay, I understand. The Java MSI Installer seems to be differ to the "public" Download Version for the private customer.I download from -pub/java/jdk/9.0.1+11/jre-9.0.1_windows-x64_bin.tar.gz. And this Version 9.0.1 shows the other Version info. Many thanks to clarify this and for your perfect work all the times. I like it.
