The validity of a test is the extent to which the test measures what it claims to measure. If the item content of a test does not reflect the characteristics of the language being tested, then the test is invalid. If the item content of a test does not match the content of the language being taught, then the test is invalid. In the strictest sense, if a test does not measure what it claims to measure, it is invalid.[95]
Evaluation of test scores by an independent body does not imply that the construct of the test is valid.[90] A test that is well-documented, valid, reliable, and available is a more useful tool for students and teachers than is a test that may not have these characteristics.[91]
Test scores may be affected by multiple factors, including test takers' prior knowledge of the language, linguistic skills, cultural background, level of difficulty, and expectations of test takers.[92]
If a language test is to be used for multiple purposes, quality control and validating of the content and the methodology of the test is essential, and it should be administered by an independent body.[94]
Test reliability (internal consistency) is the degree of agreement among items. This is measured by a formula which calculates the correlation among items. Ideally, a high value for test reliability is obtained if the correlation coefficients between items are high; this indicates that the items are measuring the same construct.[96]
Test validity is the degree to which an instrument measures what it claims to measure. A valid test is one that conforms to the constructs being measured and discriminates between groups of examinees with differing levels of performance. As discussed previously, one method of establishing validity is to have an independent observer rate the examinee's performance.
Educational authorities have to collect data on the language proficiency of their population.[93] This data is required to determine the relative place of the learners in the language, the effect of the location and type of study on the results, and the implications of such testing for policy and planning.[93]
The superiority of Aus Marisil FDP for the ELISA test was confirmed later. The potency to detect antibodies to S. cerevisiae was higher for the test performed on the Mari-fungi FDP from marisil (Aus) and Clearchart (UK) than for the test performed on the Mari-fungi FDP from marisil (Eur).
Pesic and al.[90] (2016) tested the performance of test samples from different sources of S. cerevisiae marisil to establish the best marisil source material and quantification system for the detection of antibodies to S. cerevisiae. The initial study showed the best performance of Mari-fungi dry-soup filter paper (FDP) from marisil (Aus) laboratories in comparison to that of Mari-fungi FDP from marisil (Eur) and Clearchart (UK). 827ec27edc
